Are the stamps in the service book from Volvo dealers or just a all-brands workshop? Because if it is a all-brands workshop, they could be lacking the knowledge of when the specified parts needs to be replaced. For example spark plugs change interval is 60 000 km, and the fuel filter is 160 000 km's. The spark plugs are the easiest to check.
And could you be more specific about the "lacking power" problem, when does this usually happend, what the engine does at that point when the problem occurs and does it throw somekind of a warning light in the istrumentcluster?
If i'd be you, i would drive to the nearest Volvo dealer and check for any error codes, there has to be something in the memory that the cheaper OBD-readers cant find. (Just because there is so much to cover with so little info)
Fuelpump relay is also a common problem with these older Volvos.
